About Us

The Netzer Co-Op was collaboratively launched as an experiment in May of 2007. Two visions and a small community of wanderers create The Co-Op to explore what it would mean for them to follow Christ through the hopes and dreams of God that they we hearing being whispered in their hearts.

The community is continues to be a small, holistic, and yet intentional community of wanderers who gather within a couple of communities. The community at Shindig – a monthly worship gathering, the monastic community – spiritual stewards & curators and a community of friends who gather around us in school, work, neighborhoods and daily life.

Belonging to The Co-Op

We have no “membership” per se. Mainly because we don’t set out to create any such criteria for such a thing. Rather we offer hospitality to all – hoping to embrace the best of Benedictine hospitality that suggest we welcome all strangers (or friends) with the kiss of Christ. As friends start returning that hospitality they become an integral part of our community. Some of us who feel a strong sense of belonging to the community serve as artists, musicians, worship leaders, servants, or commit to being a part of the monastic community.

Our Community Belonging to The Family

As a collective community we don’t stand alone, separated from the wider Family of God. We belong to the Lutheran tribe as part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. We relate to the Southwest Texas Synod of the ELCA as a “Synodically Authorized Worshipping Community” (how about that for a mouthful?).
